Beginning March 26, Google will no longer support FTP publishing on its Blogger service. the company announced this change through a blog post as well as through emails to current FTP users. According to Rick Klau, Blogger product manager, only 0.5% of the active blogs in Blogger are published through FTP. He said that FTP is using up a significant amount of resources while hindering the ability to improve Blogger. In spite of the small number of blogs published via this format, engineering resources that are devoted to FTP support go beyond the 0.5 percent being served. Klau also added that a particular piece of Google’s infrastructure that works to backup Blogger’s FTP publishing capabilities is also going to become unavailable. If Blogger continues FTP support, the company will have to work on completely rewriting the code that is responsible for FTP processing. He adds that they have evaluated the investment required to continue FTP support and it was found that it’s difficult to justify using engineering resources for it instead of building new capabilities and features for all Blogger users. When Google purchased Blogger in 2003, the original service only had FTP as the only way to publish blogs from a user’s own domain. A user will need to put up a server and purchase a domain name and Blogger will then send the posts to the server through FTP. Another option is to host the blog on Google’s servers using the blogpost.com domain. In 2007, however, Google launched Blogger Custom Domains, a feature that allows clients to use dedicated domains while hosting the blog on Google’s servers. Soon, this will be the only option for dedicated domains on managed hosting.

Coming out of college I had a hard time trying to find a job for my degree in design. There aren’t a lot of graphic or web design firms in the Inland Empire, so it was very difficult to find a job. Those that exist at the time were very homely and lacked a professional atmosphere. It basically looked like the design firm was somebody working from home.
2008 is coming to an end and there are a few design firms in the area. Most of them are the same run of the mill wannabe IE design houses, but a few are worth taking note. This Inland Empire web design firm looks to be the hallmark of what a web company looks like. They have a nice clean design layout for their website, a very informative site discussing what their services are and what appears to be a fun atmosphere.
It’s places like this I wish I had an option of sending my resume to. I’m glad that the Inland Empire is finally progressing in the world of web design and some people are realizing that the IE could be an untapped market. I hope this trend continues and there will be some actual positive growth out here. It’s hard to say now because of our economy, but there will always be the need of businesses needing marketing.

So you’re on the computer, as usual. Your eyes are smarting. Your back hurts. You want to jump in the car and sail down the highway with all the windows down and your hair flapping in the wind. But before you call it quits for the day, you have to look up just one more thing. Maybe it’s web marketing, maybe you want to buy some artwork to hang in your office. Off to Google you go.
You type in the magic words, whatever they are, and watch as a list of websites flows down the page. You click on the first one, and it’s an instant assault on your eyeballs. Ten glaring banners, flashing like Vegas at midnight. One of those annoying hover ads that follows you as you scroll and won’t let you read anything until you click the corner. Some sparkly things “snowing” down the page. Frantic messages screaming things like BUY NOW! LAST CHANCE! INSTANT SUCCESS CAN BE YOURS. A picture of a grinning guy who reminds you of your creepy Uncle Lester.
You click away. Not today, not any day. You don’t care what that guy is selling or even if he’s giving something away, because his presentation is god-awful. Just when you thought you’d escaped the mayhem, a sneaky little window pops up: “WHY DID YOU LEAVE THIS SITE? Please fill out this quick survey!” Are they kidding? You consider typing something offensive in the “Leave Your Comment” box, but figure it will only encourage someone to spam you with unwanted offers.

7. No one reads really long sales letters. Ah, how brilliant of those copywriting experts to convince you that a six-page letter is going to bring in big bucks for your company. Especially if you’re paying them by the hour or word! A two-page letter will do the same thing as a six-pager, and more. The ‘more’ being that it will hold your reader’s interest the whole way through. Brevity is the key to great writing. If you can make a great argument in five words or less, you’ve got it all over the next guy. Keep that in mind before you put the Magna Carta on your web portal.
