A Life in Invention: Mr Nicholas Bredimus

Posted by admin in Doing Business, Misc Stuff, Social Hub

The revolution in hospitality and airline travel was kicked off by Nicholas Bredimus, who combined them with the computer world to create a new way to do business. His career highlights include effort-saving computer programs, airplane safety developments, and he’s even involved in designing upmarket homes.

Anyone could have predicted, however, that with his family history he was a sure bet to reach the top. His family traces its provenance as far back as the days of Rome’s glory and proudly boasts a varied mix of nationalities. The maternal family mingles Scottish and German roots. A similarly wide blend dominates his father’s side — prior to coming to America in the late nineteenth century, the family made their homes in England and Luxembourg.

This remarkable drive pushed them on after their arrival in America. Nicholas, along with his sisters and brothers, was a child of a father who worked as a mechanical design engineer and a mother who worked as a practicing nurse. Nicholas would make his home in the Lone Star State for quite some while as well as in Scottsdale, AZ, Kansas City, MO and Reston, VA. So what, you may ask, did Bredimus do to capitalize on his background and studies? He would soon embark on a series of high-powered posts, each one as part of popular airlines. Nicholas became a vice president with corporations like Trans World Airlines (TWA), Republic Airlines, and Hughes Airwest respectively. Most important, even considering this, is his role as a gifted software designer for the airline industry.

His creation of airplane maintenance programs, now commonplace throughout the entire air travel business while originally designed for US Airways, ultimately resulted in what is probably his most famous program. He created numerous other programs for the hotel and airline sectors in addition, including unmanned systems to deal with airline bookings, now in use at fifty or more airlines, as well as the original room reservation software on the PC for the hotel sector, first put to use at over 700 locations. Following that would come an online, networked system for ticket ordering that was an industry first.

He parlayed these achievements into roles unconnected to software development. He managed American Express’ IT division, founded Bredimus Systems in the early nineties, and had the honor of being appointed the first president of American Airlines’ AMR Travel Services.

And is he still active? Most certainly so — his peerless abilities are in demand and at the ready in spite of his leaving former interests in the past. He’s at work now advancing architecture — blending the needs of aesthetics with increasingly sophisticated technology and real environmental interests.
