1 Overlooked Key to Small Business Success

Posted by admin in Doing Business

Is this you?

You dreamed of owning your own business, doing what you love and enjoying
unlimited earning potential. You researched. You planned. You prepared. Finally,
you launched.

Your dream was realized…and then your business started to grow! Could it get any
better? Well, yes, but if you’re like many others, you may have encountered one
unexpected challenge along the way: Are you drowning in the day-to-day
administrative tasks necessary to make your business successful?

Managing emails. Bookkeeping. Writing articles or newsletters. Processing
invoices. Answering phone calls. Scheduling appointments. Marketing. Customer
Service. Travel Planning. They all take time. Unfortunately, time is in short supply
when business is booming.

The work needs to be done, but you don’t want to do it yourself and you don’t want
the cost or the hassle of hiring an employee, right?

So what’s the key? A virtual assistant.

Virtual assistants provide a wide range of administrative services to small
businesses and individuals. They are independent contractors who work from
home, use their own equipment, occupy their own space and pay their own taxes
and benefits. Best of all, they charge you only for time spent on your particular
project(s). They typically have years of administrative experience under their belt
and most are amazingly budget-conscious.

As an emerging industry, virtual assistance is quickly becoming a valuable asset to
individual business owners and a must-have in the small business community at
large. Handing off administrative tasks to someone with the tools and know-how to
complete them quickly and efficiently is saving many businesses untold amounts of
time and money. A virtual assistant is undoubtedly a worthwhile investment.

BONUS: 4 Tips for Working with a Virtual Assistant:

1. Start small. Don’t be afraid to “test the waters” by giving your new virtual
assistant a small project without a huge budget. It may take time to find a virtual
assistant with whom you work well.

2. Be specific. Virtual assistants like to know exactly what’s expected of them.
Provide as much detail about your project and your needs as possible.

3. Forge a relationship. Establishing a strong, lasting connection with a virtual
assistant will benefit you enormously in the long run. You will be surprised how
much you come to rely on his/her knowledge and expertise.

4. Remember, your virtual assistant is not your employee; they are small business
owners themselves, partnering with you to achieve success. This is a win-win
situation because when you succeed, they succeed.

Find a virtual assistant quickly,
easily and for free at SimplyComplete.com. Search the VA Directory or post your
project in minutes. Get your to-dos done!

No Shortage of Family Actvities in Ruidoso, New Mexico

Posted by admin in Doing Business

Ruidoso, New Mexico is a lot of things to many people. A ski resort, a thriving horse racing destination and, more than anything, a great place to spend time with your family. And where can you find a more fun mix of activities and events for the kids than in Southern New Mexico!

Ruidoso has a wonderful assortment of activities for children of all ages. Enjoy horse back riding with four stables in town and one on the nearby Mescalero Apache Reservation. If it’s fishing you’re after the hot spots are at the Grindstone Dam, Mescalero Reservation and the mighty Rio Ruidoso River, stocked with plenty of good sized trout. Just be sure and have a local fishing license, easily obtainable at the local WalMart and Western Auto. If you don’t catch anything there, head on past the racetrack to Seeping Springs Trout Pond. They furnish the gear, the fishin’ hole and you only pay 50 cents an inch for what you catch no license required. Here’s the very best part…they clean them for you! My daugther took the family and came back with 4 lovely 12+ inch trout all ready for the grill.

Naturally, being in the mountains of New Mexico there’s plenty of hiking and nature. The Lincoln National Forest is a start with plenty of other diverse scenery nearby. If you’re after more urban pursuits, Fun Trackers Amusements in Ruidoso has go karts, bumper boats and goofy golf. That’s just for starters. Add in the history of the region and you’ve got a plateful.

Ruidoso has it’s own historical spots. There’s Dowlin’s Mill where Billy the Kid stayed. Don’t forget a stop at the Hubbard Museum of the American West for an enchanting look at the past for all ages.

Capitan, a scant twenty minutes from Ruidoso is home to the only American figure with their own zip code…Smokey Bear. The Smokey Bear Historical Park is packed with tips on preventing wild fires with plenty of interactive display for the children. There’s a small theater with regular showings, an informative garden area with many types of indigenous flora and of course the final resting spot of old Smokey himself. Always a tear there it seems.

In Lincoln, only 30 minutes away you’ve got the hub of the Lincoln County Wars. Characters like John Tunstall, Sheriff Bob Ollenger and of course William Bonney who became better known as Billy the Kid. It’s the bloodiest street in America…in any era…with a nice selection of museums, shops and original buildings. The classic Wortley Hotel which still operates seasonally and the Ellis Store, now a splendid bed and breakfast are just examples.

An hour south of Ruidoso is Alamagordo. Pay a visit to their zoo. Perhaps the really big screen calls from the IMAX theater. Mystified by the stars? The Space Museum is bound to enthrall. Don’t forget the allure of the magical White Sands National Monument…all great reasons to make the 60 minute drive.

Only 75 minutes out is the infamous Roswell, home to UFO buffs from around the world. Is it a weather balloon or something else? The UFO Museum has their opinion on the matter. Check them out!

If it seems like there are a lot of things to keep the kids loving the area, well that’s because there are! Frequently concerned parents who come to enjoy the race track or casinos ask, “Is there anything for the kids to do?”. You bet!

The Internet: Have You Cashed In Yet?

Posted by admin in Doing Business

The recently ended Christmas/Holiday 2005 sales season is returning some good numbers for retailers, well above figures that some thought would have been unattainable in light of the many hurricanes that wreaked disaster on parts of the U.S. this past year. With consumer sentiment good, early figures suggest that sales climbed at least 4% over last year’s figures with a number twice that amount also being mentioned. Still, the greatest increases have been in an area that has seen double digit growth for years: the internet. With sales climbing 30% over last year’s torrid rates, online shopping is here to stay…and growing bigger every year. Have you started your online site yet? If not, why not?

Brick and mortar retailers are discovering that in order to remain competitive, they must have an online presence too. No longer does your customer base have to be restricted to a one or two county area where you live. The internet provides a great way to expand that base to include your entire state, your country, or the world! For example, Wal-Mart not only sells well at the store level, but their online sales do very well too. If Wal-Mart can do it, you can too.

Isn’t an online presence expensive? No, thanks to web sites that are easy to upload and manage. Depending on the company you choose, the web hosting portion of managing a site is negligible. Hosting fees and annual domain registration should cost you less than $125. per year. The better hosts also have extra “somethings” to whet your appetite: like easy to download open source storefronts that can help you set up an online presence.

Speaking of storefronts, OS Commerce software continues to help make an online presence possible for many retailers. With easy to use [and free!] software, everything you sell in your store can be sold online or at least those specialty items with high mark ups, right? With OS Commerce, you can use your existing bankcard relationship to bring in the cash or you can use Paypal, whichever works best for you.

Yes, Holiday 2005 is one for the record books. If you missed out, do not despair…you can get your site ready in time for the Valentine’s Day crunch and begin reaping tremendous sales increases immediately!

Medical volunteer Anthony Loeff is testing digital tools

Therefore functionality remains limited compared to equivalent desktop applications, the major benefit is to increase the accessibility of said websites. The primary audience for such applications is those who have difficulty reading because of learning disabilities or language barriers. Recent versions of Microsoft Windows come with the rather basic Narrator. Later versions of Microsoft Windows include an Accessibility Wizard and Magnifier for those with partial vision, and Microsoft Narrator, a simple screen reader. A persons choice of screen reader is dictated by many factors, including platform and the role of organizations like charities, schools, and employers.

Linux distributions for the blind include Oralux and Adriane Knoppix. A screen reader is a software application that attempts to identify and interpret what is being displayed on the screen. Most legally blind people 61 percent do not use computers. The Macintosh OS also comes with a built-in screen reader, called VoiceOver.

The open source GNOME desktop environment long included Gnopernicus and now includes Orca. This season Anthony Loeff nonprofit volunteer is reporting screen readers for people who are blind More and more, screen readers are being bundled with operating system distributions. Screen reader choice is contentious: differing priorities and strong preferences are common. Further, using a screen reader is, according to some users, considerably more difficult than using a GUI and many applications have specific problems resulting from the nature of the application.

Only a small fraction of this population, when compared to the sighted community, have Internet access.

Web browsers, word processors, icons and windows and email programs are just some of the applications used successfully by screen reader users. Screen readers are a form of assistive technology potentially useful to people who are blind, visually impaired, or learning disabled, often in combination with other AT such as screen magnifiers. The rest have some vision, from light perception alone to relatively good acuity. While Apple Mac OS X includes VoiceOver, a more feature-rich screen reader. The movement towards greater web accessibility is opening a far wider number of websites to adaptive technology, making the web a more inviting place for visually impaired surfers. Access technology such as screen readers and Screen magnifiers enable the blind to use mainstream computer applications. The console-based Oralux Linux distribution ships with three screen-reading environments: Emacspeak, Yasr and Speakup. Experimental approaches in sensory substitution are beginning to provide access to arbitrary live views from a camera.

This interpretation is then represented to the user with text-to-speech, sound icons, or a braille output. Screen readers can be assumed to be able to access all display content that is not intrinsically inaccessible.

The latter developed in part by Knopper who has a visual impairment. There are also open source screen readers, such as the Linux Screen Reader for GNOME and NonVisual Desktop Access for Windows.

Near 24 percent of those deemed legally blind, by any measure, have no vision.

The Internet: Best Source for Local Information!

Posted by admin in Doing Business

You really don’t need to be a statistical expert to see that everyone’s eyeballs are glued to computer screens everywhere you go. Think about it. Your family, friends, and coworkers are all looking up different things online that they need to find. Very often, it’s local information they seek. Walk into any school campus, library, Internet cafe, or even a Starbucks and you’ll see the same scene — people online, and for hours at a time!

There’s no stopping curious eyeballs

Human nature drives curiosity. People have a strong need and desire to know about things they’re interested in. For example, a person might want to learn about the elephants in Africa, or they might want to know more about that nearby restaurant in their neighborhood. For decades, TV sets, radios, and dusty phonebooks did the job for us. But then came the Internet. And, that changed everything almost overnight.

Here’s why the Internet is overwhelmingly popular:

It’s universally useful. Because it holds unlimited information on virtually every imaginable thing you can think of, the types of people it attracts are also unlimited.

It’s universally convenient. The Internet can EVEN be accessed from many places where phonebooks, TV sets, and portable radios are typically not allowed:

- Workplaces, especially offices
- Coffee shops (eg. Starbucks)
- Bookstores (eg. Barnes & Noble)
- School (eg. workshops, computer labs)
- Libraries
- Hotel lobbies
- Airports!

Wow! Can you imagine a person carrying a stack of phonebooks around the office or coffee shop because they want to find out about a nearby restaurant they want to go to? A TV set? A portable radio?

You can even access the Internet from cell phones!

It is all-inclusive. You can find information that’s sitting in China as quickly as finding information that’s sitting in L.A.’s own Chinatown.

So what are you waiting for?

Now that you understand how the Internet is global, you must understand one final point: Life is still very local.

Confused? Don’t worry. The most important thing to remember when selecting where in the Internet to include your local business’s information is that strong local focus is the most critical issue.

Odds On Tiger

Posted by admin in Doing Business

Las Vegas Hilton golf specialist and oddsmaker Jeff Sherman had one important duty to tackle Sunday before he could focus on Super Bowl chores: Adjusting Masters odds on Tiger Woods after golf’s 29-year-old superstar boosted his record for the year to two-for-two by winning the Dubai Desert Classic.

“It’s a smooth start of the year for him,” Sherman said.

Located in the United Emirates Republic half-a-world away and many time zones ahead of Las Vegas, Dubai annually draws golf’s top players — at a price.

Some sports books had Woods linked up to Super Bowl XL in betting propositions.

Woods received a $3 million appearance fee, far more than he earned for winning the $5.4 million tournament.

“I lowered him to 9/4,” said Sherman, who had Woods at 5/2 at the start of 2006.

Phil Mickelson remained the 7/1 second choice and Vijay Singh was still the 10/1 fourth selection.

Ernie Els dipped to 8/1 from 9/1.

Retief Goosen remained 15/1, Sergio Garcia dropped from 25/1 to 20/1; Jim Furyk and Chris DiMarco are 25/1.

Longest shot on the board is 1991 champ Ian Woosnam at 1000/1; two-time green jacket winner Tom Watson is 500/1, along with Craig Stadler.

Woods, recent purchaser of a $38 million Florida oceanfront mansion with his wife, Elin, will be seeking his fifth victory at Augusta, where he is defending champ.

Sherman has posted a prop that asks how many majors Woods will win in 2006.

Zero is 3/2, one is 5/4, two is 3/1, three is 15/1 and four (grand slam) is 40/1.

Woods has indicated he plans to play six times leading up to the Masters, including this week in Los Angeles.

The Masters is slated April 6 through 9.

UV Air Purifiers - The Complimentary Air Cleaning System

Posted by admin in Doing Business

UV air purifiers utilize a type of technology that is most effectively used in combination with other types of air purification systems. Ultra violet air purifiers are not air cleaning filters, in that they do not harvest harmful particulates from the air, like the HEPA or electronic systems. UV air purifiers are, however, an extremely useful addition to a more comprehensive air cleaning system.

UV air purifiers use certain types of ultra violet light to neutralize and destroy microorganisms that live in our environment, such as bacteria and viruses, which can potentially be very harmful, particularly to young children or older people, or family members who have already been compromised by another illness. UV air purifiers are also effective in dealing with mold, and the tiny toxins that mold spores release.

Ultra violet air purifiers work by altering the DNA of these microorganisms, which results in their death. Don’t worry though - UV air purifiers won’t harm your DNA or that of your children in any way. These purifiers are completely safe for use in your home environment.

While the technology used in UV air purifiers is highly effective in killing bacteria and viruses, it cannot act as an air cleaning filter, and so by using this technology alone, dust and particles will remain present in the atmosphere in your home. For complete air purification, many manufacturers have combined ultra violet air purifiers with some other type of filter technology, such as HEPA, to ensure that the air you breathe is as safe and clean as possible.

UV air purifiers are highly effective at what they do, but are unable to perform the same functions as other air cleaning systems. So for the best of both worlds, choose a system for your home that offers both - an air cleaning filter and a uv air purifier.

UV air purifiers, a useful addition to your air purification arsenal.
